Troubleshooting DISH® TV Problems

Black, blue or snowy screen Check the following:
  1. All Components are On—DISH® receiver, TV, VCR, DVD Player, etc.
  2. TV Channel and Input—Turn TV off and on and notice channel or input displayed on-screen. TV must be set to correct input or channel—usually HDMI1 and channel 3 or 4.
  3. Cable type between Receiver and TV—Is it coax (round cable with single pin at each end) or non-coax?
    With coax cable connection:
    • If receiver has TV1 output on back panel (non-ViP), tune TV to channel 3 or 4 so picture appears.
    • If receiver has Home Distribution output on back panel (ViP), tune TV to channel 62 or 75 so picture appears. (Proper channel may appear on remote's sticker.)
    With non-coax cable connection:
    • Cycle through TV inputs until picture appears. (Proper input may appear on remote's sticker.)
  4. Receiver-to-TV Configuration—Is wiring between DISH® receiver and TV configured properly?
  5. Receiver-to-TV Connections—Are connections secure between DISH® receiver, TV, VCR, DVD Player, etc.?
  6. Reset Receiver—If only ONE receiver has this problem, unplug from power outlet for 10 seconds, then plug back in.
    Note: Wait up to five minutes for reset process to finish.
Frozen screen or video image Check the following:
  1. Remote is in SAT Mode—Press and release SAT button on remote control. Button will light up briefly.
  2. Front Panel can change channels—Press up/down buttons on front panel of DISH® receiver (some may be inside front panel door) to see if receiver changes channels.
  3. Reset Receiver—If only ONE receiver has this problem, unplug from power outlet for 10 seconds, then plug back in.
    Note: Wait up to five minutes for reset process to finish.
Bad or distorted video Possible causes include poor quality cables, lower quality TV input selection mode (coax, RCA, S-Video), a poor ground, watching standard definition content on high definition display, up-converted HD content, failing equipment, HD receiver in wrong mode or Safe Mode. You can also check:
  1. Screen Shape Issue—Press button on remote repeatedly to rotate through different screen shape settings.
  2. Reset Receiver—If only ONE receiver has this problem, unplug from power outlet for 10 seconds, then plug back in.
    Note: Wait up to five minutes for reset process to finish.
On-screen channel guide has no info
  • To avoid Info Not Available message, leave receiver (not TV) turned on overnight so it can receive programming updates.
  • To fix this problem, unplug DISH® receiver from power outlet for 10 seconds, then plug back in.
    Note: Wait up to five minutes for reset process to finish.
DVR displaying error code If DVR is interrupted by signal loss or power failure while recording, it may display error code 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 or 07. If only ONE receiver has this problem, unplug from power outlet for 10 seconds, then plug back in.
